TREE CITY USA DESIGNATION
The City of Oxnard is designated as a Tree City USA, a program sponsored by The Arbor Day Foundation
in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters to recognize urban and community forestry programs. Ongoing efforts by the City’s Parks Division have contributed to this designation for more than 27 years. These efforts include a three year tree planting program on major
streets in Oxnard funded by a $90,000 grant from the Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Foundation.
Trees offer many environmental benefits including enhanced air quality, carbon sequestering,
energy conservation through shade and wind protection, reduction of storm water runoff and erosion
and noise attenuation.
