Good News

The City of Oxnard has received a $6 million grant from the California State Library to build a public library at the corner of Saviers and Bard Roads.  The grant, along with $4 million in matching funds from the City, are the resources that will be used to build and furnish the new South Oxnard Branch Library.  This 23,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art library, designed to serve the needs and fulfill the desires expressed by the community, will include:

   4 Study Rooms

   Large Children's Section with a puppet theater

   Teen Section with a large study room

   Common Reading Area

   Mezzanine (home to the Spanish Language Collection)

   Homework assistance

   Self check-in systems

   Self check-out systems

Challenges

    The cost of the new library has increased due to rising construction expenses, particularly related to the increase in the price of steel and concrete.

    The necessity of reducing long-term operating expenses has resulted in the need for additional customer self-operated book chick-in and check-out systems.

Goal

In partnership with the residents, service organizations, and businesses of Oxnard, our goal is to raise $500,000 to complete the South Oxnard Branch Library.
