2016 California FIre Explorer Academy Training Site in Oxnard
The 2016 California State Fire Exploring Academy is being hosted by the Oxnard Fire Department during the week of March 28 – April 3, 2016.This is a group of 150 Fire Explorers and nearly 100 advisers from over 40 departments though out California and Nevada. It is a quick exposure for young people to firefighter level training.
This year’s training consists of:
- Auto Extrication
- Flammable Liquids
- Rope Rescue
- Wildland
- Structure Firefighting
I am letting you know that one of the training sites may impact your jurisdiction and/or be visible to the public.
The structure firefighting component is scheduled at the old Wagon Wheel Shopping Center. This is located at Ventura Road and Highway 101.The dates for the training there are March 31 to April 2 from 0800 till 1800 hours each day.
This site is a series of strip-mall of buildings that have been dedicated to the Academy for training. This site will have 5 areas of training; flat roof ventilation, pitched roof ventilation, smoke room search, RIC operations in the smoke room, and water application techniques.
Each day there is a large orientation burn in the morning and 6 additional smaller burns though out the day-roughly one every hour. There will be smoke though out the day but little visible flames at the site. The buildings will not be burned down.
The training is being led by California certified instructors in the respective training disciplines and have on site Safety Officers there
On the mornings of the training we will notify our Dispatch Center via phone and on our radio channels. And we will also verbalize when the training is finished,
