Community Relations Commission – Agendas and Minutes

The Community Relations Commission (CRC) of the City of Oxnard consists of seven members appointed by City Council to identify and advise City Council on problems of discrimination in the community and to promote better human relations among all city residents. CRC members are appointed to serve a two-year term.

The CRC was established in 1961 to promote understanding and respect among all racial, religious and nationality groups and to discourage and prevent discriminatory practices against any such group.

The CRC sets a meeting schedule on an annual basis. They generally meet on the third Monday of each month, except for the months of January and February due to the holidays. Meetings typically begin at 6 PM in the City Council Chambers, 305 West Third Street, 1st Floor, in downtown Oxnard. Meetings are televised live on Oxnard Citywatch Television available on Time Warner Cable channel 10 and Verizon FiOS channel 35.

A public comments period is scheduled at the beginning of each meeting for residents to comment on matters within the subject matter jurisdiction of the CRC.

The CRC also conducts an annual Strategic Planning Meeting (typically held in January). City Council, city staff members, community organizations and the general public, are invited to this meeting to provide the CRC with input, ideas and concerns regarding community related issues. Feedback from the Strategic Planning Meeting allows the CRC to schedule their monthly meetings with topics addressing the community on subject matters that pertain to the powers and duties of the CRC as listed in the bylaws.

The complete agenda is made available to the public after 5 PM on the Thursday before the meeting. The agenda is posted in the kiosk just outside the back entrance to City Hall, 305 West Third Street, and online on the City of Oxnard website.
