The City of Oxnard Public Works Department has received grant funding from the California Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund through the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Urban and Community Forestry Program to have fruit trees planted in residents’ front yard for free. Through this program, residents will have the opportunity to apply to have their choice of a peach, avocado, plum, apple, fig, or pomegranate tree planted in their front yard.

All Oxnard residents are encouraged to apply, but those located outside eligible neighborhoods will be placed on a waitlist. Applications eligible for the fruit tree planting program will be prioritized for neighborhoods based on CalEnviroScreen scores that rank areas which are disproportionately affected by pollution.

Priority neighborhoods based on CalEnviroscreen scores are Tierra Vista, Mar Vista, Five Points Northeast, Rose Park, La Colonia, and Cabrillo.

Funding for this project has been provided by the California Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund through the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Urban and Community Forestry Program. The Urban and Community Forestry Program is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.

There are three steps to apply for your choice of fruit tree:

1. Complete the Application (Spanish Here). The application can be completed online below, or a hard copy can be completed and delivered to the City of Oxnard Parks Division at 1060 Pacific Avenue, Building #3. Please be aware that Google Maps shows 1060 Pacific Avenue to be on the west side of the street, but the City buildings are on the east side of Pacific Avenue.

2. Complete the Fruit Tree Waiver Form (Spanish Here).

3. Complete the Fruit Tree Maintenance Form (Spanish Here).

All forms must be completed and mailed or hand-delivered to the City of Oxnard Parks Division at 1060 Pacific Avenue, Building #3.

Residents who apply must be the owner of the property where the fruit trees will be planted, and the trees must be planted in the ground.

Los residentes de Oxnard ahora pueden solicitar que el personal de la Ciudad plante un árbol frutal en su patio delantero de forma gratuita. Se anima a todos los residentes de Oxnard a que presenten su solicitud, pero las solicitudes de árboles frutales se priorizarán para los vecindarios según los puntajes de CalEnviroscreen. Hay tres pasos para aplicar por su elección de un árbol frutal:

1. Complete la solicitud (Español). La solicitud se puede completar en línea en la link que aparece abajo, o se puede completar y entregar una copia impresa a la Ciudad.
2. Complete el formulario de exención de árboles frutales (Español).
3. Complete el formulario de mantenimiento de árboles frutales (Español).

Todos los formularios deben completarse y enviarse por correo o entregarse a City of Oxnard Parks Division en 1060 Pacific Avenue, Edificio #3.

Los residentes que presenten la solicitud deben ser los dueños de la propiedad donde se plantarán los árboles frutales y los árboles deben plantarse en el suelo.
