Chief Scott Whitney, Interim City Manager
The Oxnard City Council has appointed Oxnard Police Chief Scott Whitney to serve as the Interim City Manager effective at the close of business on Jan. 5. Whitney will continue serving as the city’s police chief.
The appointment follows the resignation of Oxnard City Manager Greg Nyhoff, who has accepted the position of city manager for the City of Vallejo.
“Oxnard is a big city, and it has all the challenges that come with big cities,” said Whitney. “We won’t shy away from taking on those challenges, but I also see lots of opportunities. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and work with our City Council, our hard-working employees, and our community members. We will continue to move forward during this interim period.”
Whitney, a 26-year veteran of the Oxnard Police Department, is no newcomer to the interim role. He served as one of Oxnard’s two assistant city managers for two years until September 2016, when he was named Oxnard’s police chief.
Born and raised in Oxnard, Whitney earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the University of Oregon. His major area of study was finance, with accounting as his secondary subject area. He also earned a master’s degree in public administration at California State University, Northridge.
