City, Voters Gear Up for Historic May 1 Oxnard Special Election
Oxnard, California – The City of Oxnard’s historic Special Election is on Tuesday, May 1. It will be the first special election in the city since 2013 and the first recall election in the City of Oxnard since 1984.
Permanent Vote-By-Mail voters began receiving their ballots the week of April 9. Voters should make sure they sign, date, print their address, and affix one first-class postage stamp on the yellow return envelope and mail it by Election Day.
Ballots must be postmarked on or before May 1 AND received by the City Clerk’s office no later than three days after Election Day. They can also hand-deliver it to the City Clerk’s office during regular business hours through May 1, or drop it off at any polling place on Election Day.
Those voting in person on Election Day should check the back of their Voter Information Guide to find their assigned polling place, which may be different from where they’ve voted in the past. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 1.
Ballot Tabulation and Results Reporting
Ballots will be counted beginning at 8 p.m. on May 1. The City’s Central Counting Place is open to public viewing at 300 W. Third Street, in the Human Resources Activity Room on the first floor. Vote-By-Mail ballots received through April 30 will be tabulated first and those results announced shortly after each precinct is counted.
Ballots cast at the polling places will also be counted that night and results announced precinct-by-precinct. Unofficial results will be posted on the City’s website, Oxnard.org, with the initial count at approximately 8:30 p.m., and updated throughout the night. A second count will be performed on May 9 to tabulate final Vote-By-Mail ballots and provisional ballots. This is anticipated to be the final tabulation, with the anticipated certification of the election at the May 22 City Council meeting.
