The U.S. Census Bureau conducts a full census in years ending in ‘0.’ The Census 2000 population of Oxnard was 170,358. The American Community Survey (ACS) is a large annual household survey from which the Census Bureau estimates annual population and other statistics, but with a considerable margin of error. The most recent (2005) ACS city population estimate is 178,871 with a margin of error of +/- 11,685. We do not consider the ACS population estimate as accurate as the DOF estimate.
ACS and Census 2000 are combined by the Census Bureau into several social, economic, and housing profiles that are constantly updated and available from the Census Bureau’s American Factfinder website. Caution is recommended, as the margin of error on some Census Bureau statistics may be large.
The City does not have comparable data from other sources and relies on the Census Bureau and DOF data.
