DOOR-TO-DOOR LICENSING
(CANVASSING)
WHAT IS DOOR-TO-DOOR LICENSING?
Door-to-Door Licensing (Canvassing) is responsible for ensuring compliance with city requirements for licensing dogs and cats over 4 months old and verifying they have received a Rabies vaccination. Canvassing has proven an effective method for educating residents about the benefits and requirements of pet licensing.
Animal Safety Representatives (Canvassers), provide a personal door-to-door service by:
- Canvassing City of Oxnard throughout the year.
- Issuing dog and cat licenses and updating licensing records.
- Providing general information about the services provided by Animal Safety Unit.
- Providing information to the public about the benefits of licensing their pets, state and local mandates, and how pet licensing is a form of identification that helps reunite pets with their families.
Animal Safety Representatives (Canvassers) are easily recognized by their city logo shirts, name badges, business cards and pet licensing documents. They are trained to follow strict guidelines regarding professional conduct, attire and appropriate behavior.
Canvassers do not peer into windows or over fences, looking for pets. Also, they do not engage in lengthy conversations with anyone answering the door who appears to be under 18 years of age, and they do not ask to enter a home.
Major concerns or issues should be directed to Animal Safety Administrative Office at (805) 385-7640.
