Hurtado as Oxnard’s new Assistant City Manager. Ms. Hurtado currently serves as Assistant City Manager for the City of Tracy. It is expected that Ms. Hurtado will assume her duties as Assistant City Manager on May 18, 2015. “I know that Maria A. Hurtado is exceptionally qualified for this position and I am confident she will be a great asset to the Oxnard community”, said Mr. Nyhoff. “Maria brings with her a mix of strategic planning, community outreach/engagement, organizational development and general municipal administration. She has a strong belief in good government and is passionate about her career in public service.” Nyhoff said. Maria A. Hurtado comes to Oxnard with over eighteen years of experience, including eight years with the City of Tracy as the Assistant City Manager and Interim City Manager as well as an additional ten years as a Department Director/Deputy Director of line departments for the cities of San Jose and Watsonville. Maria brings extensive experience in organizing and facilitating neighborhood meetings, focus groups, community surveys, special events and the production of marketing collateral materials. As an individual with bilingual English/Spanish capabilities, she will be able to communicate with a diverse cross-section of the community. Maria has been responsible for the development and oversight of multimillion dollar capital and operating budgets. In addition to day-to-day budget administration, this background also includes “right-sizing” of operations in response to economic downturns, the development of alternative resource generating strategies to offset budget reductions and the articulation of community/program needs assessments to help guide Council, the public and staff as they deliberate on funding decisions. Maria currently serves on the board of Directors of the International Hispanic Network (IHN) and Women Leading Government (WLG) and is a member of the International City Manager’s Association (ICMA), Municipal Management Association of Northern California (MMANC), and Madrina for the IHN Padrinos/Madrinas Coaching Program. Contributing to Maria’s strong leadership and organizational management style is a broad educational background. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California Santa Cruz majoring in Sociology; and a master’s degree from San Jose State University majoring in social work (M.S.W.).
